What if I told you that you can build a tiny home of your own in roughly 3 weeks—would you believe me? Maybe.
Now, what if I told you that you could build a tiny home in 3 weeks AND cost only $700, would you believe me now? Definitely not.
Well, a couple in Montana did just this. And we're going to tell you how they did it!
Photographer Alla Ponomareva and her husband Garrett wanted a new guest house for their home near Missoula, Montana. Instead of hiring a contractor to build it for them, they decided to make it happen on their own—building an 80 sqft solar-powered tiny A-frame cabin!
The couple purchased the A-frame plans from the well-known tiny house movement enthusiast Derek "Deek" Diedricksen (from Relax Shacks), who had his own version built for $1200 using brand new materials.
The couple's build began by first constructing the base of the home and deck in an indoor workshop, and then the couple utilized a tractor to move the base to the home's future site.
Unlike Deek's build, Ponomareva and her husband's A-frame was built almost entirely from recycled and reclaimed materials, as well as materials that they could source from their current plot of land, such as tree stumps used for steps and an aged log made into a beautiful counter top.
The couple then built the walls and installed the roofing, as well as constructing custom beds with built-in storage underneath.
The main highlight of the home, however, has to be the plastic sheeting wall on the side of the A-frame that is translucent, allowing tons of natural light in to the tiny house during the day, with the ability to lift the wall upwards to open up the home completely to the outside living area!
Besides the fact that this tiny A-frame is one of the most beautiful and quaint homes that we have laid eyes on, what is even more impressive is the 3-week build time and the total cost to build of only $700... pretty spectacular. Makes me want to build one of my own!
